@ Forest Park | South County Education & University Center

The Adult Education and Literacy (AEL) program offers both Adult Basic Education/High School Equivalency and English as a Second Language (ESL) classes to the school districts of Affton, Bayless, Kirkwood, Lindbergh, Mehlville-Oakville, St. Louis City, Valley Park and Webster Groves.

Adult Basic Education

Adult Basic Education offers preparation to take the Missouri Test of High School Equivalence and remedial work in subjects such as mathematics, reading and writing skills.

You can find out more about Missouri's High School Equivalency program and about taking the High School Equivalency test on Missouri's High School Equivalency website. You can also learn more about taking high school equivalency courses and tests online.

Classes are free. Students must be 16 years of age or older. 16- and 17-year-olds are required to bring a letter signed by the principal or superintendent of the school they last attended indicating they are no longer enrolled and granting permission to attend Adult Education and Literacy classes.

Missouri law requires that 16-year-olds seeking admission to an AEL class verify completion of 16 units of high school credit. An official transcript indicating completion of 16 units of high school credit must be furnished at enrollment.

Enrollment in Adult Basic Education/High School Equivalency classes is now open and the program is accepting new students. All classes run continuously throughout the year.

Accepted students are required to attend orientation, which must be completed for class enrollment. Contact Ornisha Harris to register for orientation.

  • Students must arrive at the beginning of class to be admitted
  • Class requirements will be discussed
  • Testing assessments will be completed
