Setting-Up A Blackboard E-Mail Account

A new e-mail type has been established for faculty members who wish to specify an e-mail address that is different from the e-mail address that is currently interfaced to Blackboard. In order to set-up this new e-mail type, the faculty member must follow these procedures to enter the new e-mail address and mark the new e-mail address as their “Preferred” e-mail address.

  1. Sign-in to Banner Self-Service, select the “Personal Information” tab and select “Update E-Mail Address(es)"
  2. Review your existing e-mail addresses to determine if any of your existing e-mail addresses are labeled as “Preferred”.
  3. If your “STLCC Faculty/Staff E-Mail Address” is labeled as preferred or you have multiple e-mail addresses labeled as preferred:
    1. Scroll to the bottom of the screen, from the “Type of E-Mail to Insert” drop-down list, select “Blackboard E-Mail Address” and select the “Submit” button.
    2. On the screen that is displayed, fill-in the e-mail address you wish to use in Blackboard, fill-in a comment (if desired) and select the “Submit” button.
    3. Since you already have one or more e-mail addresses that are marked as preferred, you must have Admissions and Registration staff uncheck “Preferred” for all of your e-mail addresses.
    4. Then, Admissions and Registration staff can check “Preferred” for the new “Blackboard E-Mail Address”.
    5. The new “Blackboard E-Mail Address” will appear in Blackboard overnight.
  4. If your “STLCC Faculty/Staff E-Mail Address” is NOT labeled as preferred and you do NOT have multiple e-mail addresses labeled as preferred:
    1. Select the e-mail address that is currently labeled as “Preferred”.
    2. On the screen that is displayed, uncheck “Make this your Preferred address” and select the “Submit” button.
    3. Scroll to the bottom of the screen, from the “Type of E-Mail to Insert” drop-down list, select “Blackboard E-Mail Address” and select the “Submit” button.
    4. On the screen that is displayed, fill-in the e-mail address you wish to use in Blackboard, fill-in a comment (if desired), check “Make this your Preferred address” and select the “Submit” button.
    5. The new “Blackboard E-Mail Address” will appear in Blackboard overnight.
We are unable to prohibit students from entering a “Blackboard E-Mail Address” in Banner. However, if a student enters this type of e-mail address, it will be ignored during processing and will not be interfaced to Blackboard.
