Works of STLCC Art Students Featured in Varsity Art XXIII Exhibit

The works of 41 student artists, including eight from St. Louis Community College, are on display as part of Varsity Art XXIII exhibit that runs through March 28 at Art Saint Louis Gallery.

This year's exhibit presents original artworks by undergraduate- and graduate-level art students who represent 21 regional colleges and universities in Missouri & Illinois. It is free and open to the public.

STLCC students whose works were selected for exhibit are Janessa Johnson and Tiana Schmitt from STLCC-Florissant Valley; Joanna Chavez and Timothy Hamilton from Forest Park; Austin Roberts and Carrie Wing from Meramec; and Rachael Kolumbus and Patrick James McAllister from Wildwood.

Art Saint Louis is located at 1223 Pine Street. Gallery hours are 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday; 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday. It is closed Sundays and major holidays.

This exhibit features a variety of media including ceramics, digital imaging, drawing, graphic design, mixed media, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, and video. Many of the works can be viewed by clicking on the exhibit Facebook album.

Another feature to this exhibit is that one artist's work will be selected to receive an Award of Excellence as an outstanding artwork in the exhibition. That artist will then be eligible to submit artwork for the “Honor Awards 2020” curated exhibition, a special show only open to artists who receive Awards of Excellence in Art Saint Louis juried exhibits during 2019. The exhibit will be presented this summer and will be juried by artist Amy MacLennan, professor at McKendree University.

This exhibition is sponsored by all of the participating colleges & universities, Regional Arts Commission and Missouri Arts Council.

Since the exhibit’s inception, it has featured the works of more than 650 regional artists with works in all media from ceramics to printmaking, drawing, painting, graphics, video, mixed media, metalsmithing, wood, and more.
