Meramec SGC Fosters Communication between Students and Administration

Thursday, March 14, 2019

The Meramec Student Governance Council (SGC) recently has focused on building and maintaining open communication between students and administration.

To that end, the SGC on March 26 is hosting a forum for the candidates running for the Subdistrict 3 seat on the College’s Board of Trustees, providing an opportunity for students to better understand the inner-workings of the college, have their questions answered and voice their thoughts.

Recently Phillip Campbell, chair of the Meramec Institutional Affairs Committee, worked closely with the SGC executive board to install a student representative on a few campus committees. Those student delegates have the opportunity to see the process of decision making firsthand and then report back to SGC.

Bringing the Board of Trustees forum to Meramec will allow students to meet the people who influence their institution.

“It is fantastic that the student body will have a chance to be heard in this forum, as we learn to ask the right questions of the administration that has a large impact on our future,” said Allie Medler, SGC vice president.

"We are reaching people, bringing them in, and we're getting them excited to be involved," said Beth Burton, SGC treasurer. "It has been really inspiring to see familiar faces at our meetings and events because I can see the difference we are making. Students know their voices matters to us, and this forum will show them how important their thoughts are to administration, too."

Meramec’s SGC meets every second and fourth Tuesday of the month at 2 p.m. in Student Center Room 201. Meetings are open to all students, faculty and staff.
