Archers Head to NJCAA Championship as No. 10 Seed

The St. Louis Community College men’s soccer team has been seeded 10th in the upcoming National Junior College Athletic Association Division I Championship, to be played Nov. 12-17 in Daytona Beach, Fla.

The Archers (18-3-0) will open play in Pool C against third-seeded Barton (Kan.) Community College (18-1-2) at 2:30 p.m. EST (1:30 p.m. CST) Monday, Nov. 12. STLCC closes out pool play against No. 6 seed Georgia Military College at 2:30 p.m. EST on Tuesday, Nov. 13.

Pool A features No. 1 seed Pima (Ariz.) Community College, plus Northeast Texas and Muskegon (Mich.). Pool B consists of second-seeded Tyler (Texas), Monroe (N.Y.) and Community College Baltimore County-Essex. Pool D has No. 4 seed Marshalltown (Iowa), Eastern Florida State and Cowley (Kan).

Pool winners advance to the semifinals on Friday, Nov. 16. Matches are slated for noon and 3 p.m. EST. The championship match will be played at 3 p.m. EST Saturday, Nov. 17.

Head coach Tim Mosby and the Archers are making their second straight appearance in the NJCAA championship. STLCC has scored 85 goals in 21 games, while giving up 0.79 per match. Freshman Ricky Turcis leads the Archers’ attack with 17 goals and three assists (45 points). Freshman goalkeeper Liam Gibbs has a 0.95 goals-against average in 15 games, and has had a hand in seven shutouts.

Barton is paced offensively by sophomore forward Gabriel Arias, who has netted 19 goals and seven assists for 45 points. Sophomore goalie Felipe Baeza has 10 shutouts in 15 games, with a 0.69 goals-against average.

Georgia Military College is led by sophomore forward Charlie Braithwaite, who has chalked up 54 points on 20 goals and 14 assists. Sophomore goalie Tim Dolan has notched three shutouts in 17 games, with a 0.69 goals-against average.
