Student Success Team

St. Louis Community College’s highest priority must be to deal with the vast and very diverse needs of its learners who are not college-ready. If STLCC is to impact student success, it must develop intentional goals, strategies and measurable outcomes that can best affect the outcomes and success of those learners.

The primary purpose of the Student Success Team is to serve as the college’s strategy team for affecting student success, student learning outcomes, and, ultimately, institutional effectiveness. To fulfill its purpose, the Student Success Team will:

  • Analyze data related to five indicators of student success (1. completion of developmental courses and progression to credit-bearing courses, 2. completion of gatekeeper courses, particularly first college-level or degree-credit courses in math and English, 3. completion of attempted courses with a “C” or better, 4. persistence from term to term and year to year, and 5. attainment of credentials).
  • Identify specific factors that influence gaps in student achievement within the context of those five indicators.
  • Engage college constituencies in analyzing factors that influence gaps in student achievement.
  • Develop and prioritize strategies for addressing achievement gaps across the institution.
  • Collaborate with the Assessment Council and other mission-based assessment subcommittees to identify related assessment needs.
  • Review recommendations related to student success and student learning outcomes from the Assessment Council that can potentially influence the student success agenda of the college.
  • Make recommendations and requests to the Leadership Team and/or various college councils as applicable and appropriate, regarding resource allocation and budgeting regarding student success and student learning outcomes.
  • Oversee the ongoing implementation, evaluation and continuous improvement of goals, strategies and measurable outcomes related to student success and student learning outcomes.
