Application Types

Applicants to St. Louis Community College wanting to take credit classes may apply as either Degree-seeking or Non-degree-seeking. Within the Banner online application, students will need to select an application type that best addresses their situation.

Degree-seeking students are full- or part-time students seeking a degree or certificate from STLCC. A degree-seeking student may:

  • Apply for financial aid, Veterans benefits or A+ program
  • Apply for a selective admission program
  • Apply as an international student with F-1 student visa status
  • Participate in intercollegiate athletics

Degree-seeking students should complete one of the following online applications:

First-Time in College Applicant
Degree-seeking students who have not attended college after completing high school. (This includes graduating high school seniors who earned college credit while still in high school).

International  Applicant
Degree-seeking students who are not U.S. citizens, and wish to come to the U.S. under an educational visa, or who are already in the U.S. under visas that would allow educational pursuits may be admitted to the college. Applicants must meet minimum English language, educational, financial and health insurance requirements specified by the college. Learn more about the International Application process.
Returning Applicant
Degree-seeking students who have previously attended STLCC after high school completion, but not in the past semester should submit the Returning application. (Returning students not pursuing a degree should complete the Non-Degree-seeking Selected Course application.)

Transfer Applicant
Degree-seeking students who have attended college after completing high school, but have never attended STLCC should submit the Transfer application. (Students with prior college not pursuing a degree should submit the Non-degree-seeking Selected Courses application.)

Non-degree-seeking applicants are typically interested in selected courses and not a particular program of study. Students taking one or just a few credit classes: while still attending high school; or to transfer to their home college (summer classes); or for personal/professional development should apply as a non-degree-seeking.

Non-degree-seeking students should complete one of the following online applications:

Dual Credit Applicant
Dual Credit gives high school juniors and seniors the opportunity to get ahead by taking classes, taught by a high school instructor at their high school.

Dual Enrollment Applicant
Dual Enrollment gives high school juniors and seniors the opportunity to get ahead by allowing them to take classes at St. Louis Community College.

Selected Courses Applicant
Students not interested in pursuing a degree at STLCC but want to take credit classes for job improvement, licensure, external certification or personal interest. (Graduating high school seniors starting at another college this fall should complete the Selected Courses application.)

Visiting Applicant
Students not interested in pursuing a degree at STLCC, are currently enrolled at another college, and want to earn credits to transfer back to their home institution. Learn more about the Visiting Student application process.

A non-degree seeking student may apply for degree-seeking status at a later time and credits earned as a non-degree-seeking student may later be applied toward a degree or a certificate if the courses taken are part of the program requirement.

To register for Continuing Education (non-credit) classes, please go to the Continuing Education registration information page. There is no admissions process required.

Non-High School or Non-Traditional High School Graduates
Applicants for admission who have not graduated from high school, or have completed a home schooling or other education course of study that is not accredited by a state board of education or by one of the accrediting agencies listed in the International Registry of Accredited School are eligible for admission under non-degree-seeking status provided they are at least 17 years of age.

Non-Native English Speaking Applicant
After submitting an online application for admission, applicants who speak English as a second language must take the standardized ESL placement test, complete a writing sample and have a personal interview. Contact the Assessment Center to schedule an appointment.

Undocumented Resident Applicant
Undocumented students with a U.S. high school transcript will be admitted to St. Louis Community College and will pay at the international student rate for maintenance fees. Please review this additional information for more details.
