James E. Brown

James Brown is director of human resources for Nestle Purina PetCare. A native of St. Louis, Brown has worked in human resources for almost 30 years. He has been with Purina since 1994, following the first of many major change and innovation initiatives that culminated in the Nestle acquisition in 2001. He also was closely involved in the Purina-Friskies integration. In addition, he teaches human relations courses at Webster University.

Brown’s career has spanned five companies in four different industries, all in St. Louis. Prior to joining Ralston Purina, he worked for a privately-held manufacturing company, Hunter Engineering, and was responsible for technical recruiting and labor relations/plant personnel operations. Prior to that, he was "the HR department" with a start-up telecommunications company, LDX Net. He also has experience in the beverage/soft drink industry with The Seven-Up Co., and the railroad industry with Missouri Pacific (now the Union Pacific).

Brown earned a bachelor's degree in math and computer science from the University of Missouri and a master's degree in management and human relations from Webster University. He began his academic career at St. Louis Community College’s Meramec campus.

Brown and his wife, Mary Jo, live in Kirkwood and have two children. Now retired, Mary Jo taught in the gifted program at Nipher Middle School in Kirkwood.
