Elluminate is a new tool that works with Blackboard to make the online learning environment even more interactive, more collaborative and completely synchronous.
Selected online courses may use Elluminate Live!, a real-time, synchronous, virtual classroom tool.
Students have the ability to:
- Interact in realtime conversations and chat online
- View and interact with a community whiteboard
- Take part in realtime polls and surveys
- Send Instant Messages and Private Messages with classmates and the facilitator
- Interact with classmates via webcams
Elluminate Live! works with Windows, Macintosh, Linux and Solaris operating systems. It is a Java-based application, thus you need a Java enabled browser and Internet connection to use Elluminate Live!
Students are encouraged to prepare for courses using Elluminate Live! by automatically testing their hardware/software configuration to make sure their computer is compatible. Then practice with Elluminate vRoom, a free, fully functional Elluminate virtual classroom that allows students to meet with up to two other users.
Students participating in Elluminate Live! course sections must have a headset with an attached microphone to participate in the audio feature during the online course. Headsets are available in the campus bookstores.
Faculty have the ability to:
- Lead, moderate, and administer discussions
- Record sessions to be viewed at a later date
- Track which students have viewed assigned pre-recorded sessions
- Set start and end times for sessions
- Determine audiences for each session
Other features available within Elluminate include breakout discussion rooms, file transfers and application sharing.
Business users can utilize Elluminate in cost-saving and innovative ways by scheduling meetings and conferences online. The same features available to students and faculty are made available to your customers, clients, and associates. To schedule an Elluminate meeting, contact the Computer Support Center at 341-539-5113. Five days advance notice is required.
