Sustainable Environmental Design

Sustainable environmental design specialties are considered the cutting edge of "green" job technologies. Beginning this fall, St. Louis Community College is offering classes in environmental design with options in interior design, architecture and landscaping.

The classes are designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills needed to work in the rapidly growing field of sustainable environmental design. Students will learn to use core concepts, design strategies and green building technologies for the design, construction and maintenance of buildings and areas that minimize our impact on the natural environment, are more energy efficient, and are healthier for both humans and natural environmental systems. This course of study will prepare students to apply for the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Associate exam.

These classes, with three specialty areas, are ideal for any working professionals in the architectural, landscaping, interior design and other related fields, or for students currently enrolled in these disciplines. Classes meet one night per week with additional hours required online. Students may complete a sequence of six classes in one of the three specialty areas in as little as two semesters and earn 16 credit hours.

Classes begin Aug. 25 at the college's Meramec campus. Seating is limited, and there is no cost for qualified individuals. To determine if you qualify, contact Erin LeClerc at eleclerc@stlcc.edu or call
