Patient Care Technician

This industry specific eight-week program combines five weeks of classroom instruction and three weeks of clinical practicum (on-site at hospitals). The program prepares participants for entry level positions as Patient Care Technicians and is directed toward patient care in the acute care (hospital) setting versus long term care (as in nursing homes). This training program satisfies the requirements of the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services for Unlicensed Assistive Personnel (UAP). Patient Care Technician training does not lead to a state certification. Upon successful completion of the training program, students will receive the opportunity to interview with participating employers of the program.

Prerequisites
Interested applicants must meet all screening requirements. Applicants will be required to take three WorkKeys assessments and achieve the minimum scores required for the Patient Care Technician job classification. Prior to the start of training, each applicant must complete a background check, physical, and drug screening. Since the training program involves on-site clinical sessions at area hospitals, availability of reliable transportation is also a consideration for students entering the program.

Schedule
The next eight-week class is being planned for Fall 2011. This training program requires a full-time commitment for eight weeks. Hours of instruction will be 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The first five weeks of classroom instruction will be held at the Harrison Education Center while the last three weeks of the clinical practicum will be held on-site at area hospitals.

Cost
No cost to qualifying individuals.
