Information Technology Help Desk Technician Six-week Program

Computer support is in demand! Companies today are using ever more complex technologies to meet their production goals and service demands. And, they need trained employees who can support these technologies as well as maintain high levels of customer satisfaction.IT Help Desk Support Tech

The Help Desk Technician program prepares entry-level Information Technologists for work as Customer Service and Help Desk Professionals in the desktop services and applications domain. Successful recipients of the training will develop skills such as: installing, maintaining, supporting, and troubleshooting hardware components; deploying desktop operating systems and applications; deploying and maintain networking protocols and topologies; and designing desktop and network security. Desktop operating systems explored are: Microsoft Windows XP Professional, Microsoft Windows Vista, and Linux. Additional information will be provided to allow students to pursue CompTIA and Microsoft vendor certifications.

Prerequisites
Students taking this course should already have the following computer knowledge:
End-user skills with Windows-based personal computers, including the ability to:

  • Browse and search for information on the Internet
  • Start up and shut down the computer
  • Log on to a computer and computer network
  • Run programs
  • Move, copy, delete, and rename files in Windows Explorer

Basic knowledge of computing concepts, including:

  • The difference between hardware and software
  • The functions of software components, such as the operating system, applications, and file systems

Next class is being planned for Fall 2010, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Downtown Education Center of St. Louis Community College (across the street from Busch Stadium), 300 South Broadway, St. Louis, MO 63102.

Program Cost
$4,950 and includes all training materials, lab manuals and CompTIA and Microsoft exam vouchers. Dislocated workers and other unemployed individuals may qualify for tuition support by utilizing Individual Training Accounts under WIA funding.
