Aerospace Pre-Employment Training Project
The Division of Workforce and Community Development, along with Florissant Valley's Emerson Center for Engineering and Manufacturing, is collaborating on an innovative pre-employment training program for individuals interested in working for the Boeing Company in St. Louis.
Currently, the 408-hour program uses Boeing technical trainers and college instructors to prepare individuals for potential employment as Boeing Assembly Mechanics. Training topics include: sheet metal assembly, basic mechanical and electrical assembly training. Successful graduates may interview for positions at Boeing, if openings are available. Entry into the program requires certain scores on the Work Keys Assessment Test, as well as interviews and other screening to determine participants' ability to benefit from training. Further plans include integrating this training into a career pathway leading to Certificates of Specialization and associate degree programs within the Department of Labor supported Aerospace Institute.
