Linemen Pre-Apprentice Training Program

Because of its longstanding relationship with AmerenUE, St. Louis Community College's Division of Workforce and Community Development, in partnership with Florissant Valley's Emerson Center for Engineering and Manufacturing, quickly responded to the company's need to create a pool of potential candidates for entry into the lineman apprenticeship program.

An accelerated pre-employment program was created which assesses and screens interested area residents and then selects those who have both the interest and capacity to train for this challenging opportunity. The training, offered only when AmeremUE requests it, includes approximately 200 hours of instruction including pole climbing and other related topics such as math and technical reading. Successful graduates of the program then take AmerenUE's actual pre-employment test-CAST. The company makes its final hiring decisions based on these test results, physical evaluations, other requirements and the number of openings to be filled.
