St. Louis Community College is continuously seeking ways to improve the education of students in health-related disciplines, provide continuing education for the healthcare workforce, and increase the number of graduates ready to fill industry jobs in the health services/sciences industry. This commitment will be showcased through the state-wide MoHealthWINs grant program.

The $20 million state-wide MoHealthWINs program was designed to train more than 3,200 Missourians, through the Missouri Community College Association and 13 colleges, for careers in growing health care occupations, while developing innovative solutions to current and future workforce needs in the Show-Me State. St. Louis Community College was awarded a $3.7 million grant to develop and implement innovative approaches to support adult student learning, including:

  • A stackable certificate model that connects non-credit and credit components to appropriate industry certifications and provides a map for completion based on “Healthcare Career Pathways,”
  • Multiple entrance and exit points which give students options for training in short increments, stop out to work and develop professional experience, and return to school to gain another credential,
  • A learning framework that provides students with the basic reading, writing and math skills they need to succeed in a college setting through contextualized courses, and
  • Student services, such as pathway and career coaching, to take full advantage of accelerated, flexible and technology-enabled programs.

MoHealthWINs was a three-year grant program available through September 30, 2014, and provided foundational training for two career pathways: Medical Therapeutics and Health Informatics.
