Please check the STLCC Workforce Solutions site for training updates and opportunities. St. Louis Community College is continuously adding accelerated training programs for individuals.

Information Session

The Mississippi River Gateway is the entry point for students interested in careers within the transportation, distribution, and logistics industry sectors. After clicking the “Apply Now” button and completing an online application, an opportunity to attend an information session at St. Louis Community College is provided. Information sessions are required prior to registration in MRTDL programs. During the information session, participants are provided information about all MRTDL programs, and are scheduled for the WorkKeys Assessments. Each program requires participants to take the WorkKeys Assessment and score at a minimum level (determined by program). By taking WorkKeys, participants have the opportunity to earn the National Career Readiness Certificate, an industry-recognized credential that certifies essential skills needed for workplace success.

Career Blueprint

Participants will also work together with a career coach to complete a blueprint, allowing them to map their career, and in some cases, capture applicable prior learning and experience and convert it into college credit.

Adult Learning Academy (ALA)

The Mississippi River Gateway also provides an Adult Learning Academy, an alternative to traditional developmental education course sequences in math and literacy. These courses help students become college ready. Offered as non-credit learning opportunities, ALA: Literacy and ALA: Pre-Algebra courses are:

  • Contextualized for transportation, distribution and logistics industries
  • Integrated, with reading and writing delivered as one seamless course
  • Competency-based, aligned to the learning objectives and performance outcomes required of the credit developmental education courses
  • Technology-enabled, employing a hybrid format
  • Accelerated and self-paced
  • High support realized through career pathway coaches and innovative teaching methods

Adult Learning Academy: Literacy Course Starts Oct. 13!

The Adult Learning Academy: Literacy course introduces the reading and writing skills employees need to communicate effectively in today’s workforce, where employers increasingly require mastery of literacy and communication skills for entry-level positions and for career advancement. Students in the Adult Learning Academy: Literacy course develop their foundational literacy skills and improve their ability to transfer those skills from one context to another, to think critically, and to transition successfully to college coursework in pursuit of an academic credential. Through a series of competency-based and portfolio-assessed learning experiences, students develop confidence in themselves as lifelong learners who can adapt to the changing demands of the workplace. Successful completion of Adult Learning Academy: Literacy is an essential step on a pathway to career opportunity and advancement.

Adult Learning Academy: Pre-Algebra (course in development – check back soon!)

The Adult Learning Academy: Pre-Algebra course reinforces the numeracy skills needed to compete effectively in today’s workforce. Employers increasingly require mastery of basic skills, including mathematics, for entry-level positions and for career advancement. Students in the Adult Learning Academy: Pre-Algebra course develop their foundational arithmetic skills, improve their ability to solve problems, and successfully transition toward college coursework in pursuit of an academic credential. Through a series of competency-based experiences, students develop confidence in themselves as lifelong learners who can adapt to the changing demands of the workplace. Successful completion of Adult Learning Academy: Pre-Algebra is an essential step on a pathway to career opportunity and advancement.
