STLCC-Wildwood Wins American Lung Association's "Fight for Air" Award
The St. Louis Community College-Wildwood campus was recently awarded the "Fight For Air Award" by the American Lung Association during its Fight for Air Affaire held downtown. Nominees for the award must demonstrate a public commitment to protecting the environment, utilize sustainable practices and support a "reduce, reuse, and recycle" attitude, and actively attempt to educate others on the importance of being eco-friendly.

The Wildwood campus was nominated because it is a green campus, built with environmentally-friendly materials and architecture and designed to enhance occupant comfort and health, reduce operating costs, conserve natural resources and reduce each building's impact on the environment and the community.

The Wildwood Academic Support Center is available for academic assistance and tutoring services, including an on-line writing tutor option available only to Wildwood campus students.

There are many opportunities for students to get involved on campus. If you are interested in developing your leadership abilities, becoming an active member of the Wildwood Student Government Association is a great choice. Other student clubs include the Wildwood Environmental Club, Volunteers of Wildwood (V.O.W.), Creative Writing Club and the Ultimate Frisbee Club. If you don’t find a club that fits your interest, you can start a new one. Information is available from the Campus Life office about all clubs and student activities at 636-422-2243.

For students interested in rounding out their college experience with service and leadership opportunities, the campus has a new chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society for two year colleges. Students with a G.P.A. of 3.5 or higher will be invited to join during the spring semester.

To give students a chance to get active and enjoy the outdoors, the campus recently opened a new outdoor basketball court. Bring your own ball and get your friends involved in a pick-up game. The court is open during daylight hours, and is available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Look for the new campus literary and art journal, Sycamore, when you get to campus this fall! The first edition was published in May and contains student art, photographs and writing. Instructors will be asking for student submissions for the 2009-10 edition at the end of the fall semester so be sure to keep a copy of your best work to submit.
