Temporary Assistance for Needy Families

Created as a response to the changing needs of students as a result of welfare reform, the TANF Office began offering services to students receiving the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) government cash grant in 1998.

Many changes to public assistance programs, the economy, and the needs of STLCC students has grown both the services and the populations helped by the TANF Office. While the focus population continues to be students receiving TANF benefits or other forms of public assistance, including unemployment benefits (Florissant Valley only), support has been expanded to any student in need of existing services. The goal of the TANF Office remains the same, helping students in need achieve their educational goals.
