TRIO Summer Academies

Math Academy

The TRIO Math Academy prepares students for upcoming fall math classes including MTH 020, MTH 030, MTH 140 and MTH 160. Two separate sections will be offered:

  • MTH 020 section
  • MTH 030, MTH 140 and MTH 160 section.

Classes are held Monday–Thursday, from 9 a.m. to Noon, for two weeks, typically during the last week of July and first week of August. There are a total of eight classes. One Friday session will be used to retake the math placement test (only for MTH 020 students). After taking the Accuplacer placement test students will meet with a TRIO advisor to discuss results. This Math Academy is designed for existing TRIO students and is free.

G.P.S. Academy

The G.P.S. Academy (Graduation, Persistence, Success) is three-week academic experience designed to improve college readiness, increase academic skills, and prepare students for placement test retakes. It is designed specifically for new high school graduates who are transitioning to St. Louis Community College at Meramec during the upcoming Fall semester. There is no cost to TRIO students.

  • Students will have the opportunity to interact with college professors, supplemental instructors and advisors who will assist them in developing skills which ensure a successful transition to college.
  • Students will also participate in co-facilitated retention activities (led by professional staff members and current student leaders) that are designed to foster community, encourage team building, and help students become acclimated to our college culture.
  • Our curriculum is specifically designed to enhance English, math, reading and study skills. At the end of the three week program students will have the opportunity to re-take the placement test. The Accuplacer placement test is a assessment that evaluates academic skills and places students into appropriate courses.
  • Students will meet peer mentors who will assist them throughout upcoming Fall semester.
