Program Options

  • Associate in Fine Arts Degree -- Art Education option is a 70-71-credit hour program that provides students with the first two years of study toward a professional degree in art education. Upon completion, students can transfer to the University of Missouri-St. Louis to earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Art Education, or transfer to other four-year art schools or colleges to complete a professional art education degree. Students are encouraged to work with STLCC advisors to plan a program to meet requirements to the transfer institution.
  • Associate in Fine Arts Degree -- General Fine Arts option is a 68 credit hour program that prepares students to transfer to the University of Missouri-St. Louis and other four-year art schools and colleges and earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. Drawing and design form the core of this curriculum. Students also receive ample opportunities to gain proficiency in both two and three-dimensional disciplines, including painting, printmaking, ceramics, sculpture and new media. Students interested in this program should possess a strong interest in the visual arts and a desire to produce work using both traditional and experimental techniques.
  • Associate in Fine Arts Degree -- Graphic Communications option is a 71-credit hour program that provides freshman and sophomore-level classes and prepares students to transfer to a four-year art school or the University of Missouri-St. Louis and earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. Students enrolled in this program can develop skills in drawing, design, graphic design, illustration and computer art. Students learn the fundamentals of page layout, image development, Web design, print production, animation and multimedia production.
  • Associate in Fine Arts Degree -- Photography option is a 68-70 credit hour program that can provide freshman and sophomore level classes for students who are preparing for transfer to the University of Missouri-St. Louis or another college/university art program to complete a BFA. The program offers classes in analog, digital, video and experimental processes, with an emphasis on developing a personal vision and an understanding of the medium's role in the larger art world. Students are encouraged to experiment with a variety of photographic equipment and processes, from pinhole cameras to the latest in digital imaging, from non-silver processes to jpegs, not only to become technically proficient, but also to explore and find their own creative space. Students participate fully in their learning experience, pushing the boundaries and testing the limits of what photography means today and what it will mean in the future. The program encourages a strong foundation in traditional photographic processes and in art, with an emphasis on blending that knowledge with emerging technologies and non-traditional techniques.
