Associate in Science Degree in Technology Teacher Education is a 78-credit-hour program designed to transfer to universities that have teacher preparation programs in this field.
There is a significant shortage of industrial technology teachers in the state and in the nation’s middle and high schools. Due to this acute shortage of qualified and certified teachers in this field, many local schools in the St. Louis region have discontinued or are considering discontinuing their industrial technology programs. A national study has reported the need for as many as 13,000 qualified industrial technology teachers in the coming years.
This program includes a wide range of technical engineering technology courses to prepare teachers with knowledge and abilities in three areas of technology. Those three areas are: communications technology, energy and power technology, and materials and processes technology.
