This 16 credit-hour program will provide students with the knowledge and skills required to work in the emerging field of sustainable energy technology. Current and impending building projects will be centered on the ability of highly trained professionals to determine how to apply sustainable energy principles to new construction, retrofitting old buildings and managing existing facilities.
Professionals who are well-versed in sustainable energy technologies are able to take into consideration all aspects of efficiency and moderation in the use of new materials and existing energy projects.
Students will become familiar with energy systems, construction fundamentals and sustainable design fundamentals. They will learn to evaluate building energy efficiency, examine building systems, and apply the principles and practices of sustainability to decision-making processes in all phases of building energy management and control.
This certificate will be beneficial to those pursuing entry-level energy technician positions and is ideal for any building professional who wants to add sustainability skills to their skill set. The schedule is designed to accommodate working professionals.
Graduates of this program will possess the marketable skills needed to qualify them to work in the facility management, building commissioning, energy auditing and other energy-related occupations.
