Associate in Arts Degree (FV, FP, M)

Associate in Arts Degree in Music is a 72- to 75-credit-hour program for persons who wish to complete the first two years of study toward a bachelor's degree in music at a four-year college or university. Students are strongly advised to familiarize themselves with the music program at the school to which they plan to transfer and work with the advisors at St. Louis Community College to plan a program to meet those requirements.

Students take fundamental courses in music theory, music literature, class instruments and performing ensembles. Careers available in music include performing, composing and arranging music, music education, private instruction and music therapy.

We offer classroom instruction in music theory, music history and literature, classical piano, class voice and performing ensembles. We are one of the few colleges in the St. Louis area to offer a complete array of large ensemble activities. Private instruction in voice, piano, organ, orchestral instrument, classical guitar, jazz guitar, jazz bass, jazz piano or jazz drums is arranged in the community with some of the area's leading musical artists.

For students less experienced in music, help in preparation for the regular major music courses is offered through classes such as Basic Music and through careful academic planning with the music faculty advisors.
