Music at Meramec

Music at Meramec offers courses for the music major and non-major alike. A complete sequence of courses is offered in Music Theory, Music History, Class Piano and Applied Lessons that transfer to most universities. Meramec offers outstanding performance groups that feature talented college and community members, including Concert Choir, Chamber Singers, Jazz Improvisation, Symphonic Band, Orchestra and the Voices of Magic jazz choir. The program also offers courses in Music Appreciation, Survey of Rock and History of Jazz to satisfy the Humanities & Fine Arts General Education requirement along with Basic Music, Guitar and Voice. Meramec regularly hosts concerts, recitals and guest artist residencies.

Myers is the coordinator of music, director of choral activities and associate professor of music at St. Louis Community College at Meramec. He holds the Doctor of Musical Arts in Choral Conducting from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. His choirs regularly collaborate with Grammy-winning artists, premiere works by international composers, and perform major works with professional ensembles. Myers is a sought-after adjudicator, lecturer, clinician and guest conductor and the Repertoire and Standards Chair for 2-year colleges in the Southwestern Division of ACDA.

Gackstatter is an active artist, composer, conductor, clinician, performer and teacher, teaching at St. Louis Community College at Meramec as conductor of the Symphonic Band and Meramec Orchestra. He holds a MMP/Conducting from Wichita State University. His groups have been featured at Missouri Music Educators Association, Kansas Music Educators Association and Kansas Bandmasters Association state conventions, and have won many regional and state awards. Gackstatter has served as a state and regional MENC composition chairman. Gackstatter has composed five symphonies combining music with other arts, and has arranged symphony debuts.
