Manufacturing Technology

Associate in Applied Science Degree (FV)

Associate in Applied Science Degree in Manufacturing Technology is a 66- to 67-credit-hour program for persons wishing to become manufacturing technicians. The program emphasizes the computer-aided drafting and computerized numerical control aspects of manufacturing technology.

Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM) Certificate of Specialization is an 18-credit-hour certificate that provides persons currently employed in manufacturing with a specialty in numerical control programming and provides students in technical areas with specialization in a specific area of manufacturing.

This program prepares students for careers as manufacturing technicians who assists manufacturing engineers by translating the general ideas of the engineer into specific, detailed plans and communicating these plans to the machinist and craftsman. Students will learn to measure, analyze and improve upon production elements such as workers, materials and machines. Students have the option of substituting six credit hours of appropriate and relevant workplace learning experience for technical courses and/or electives in the program. The program also emphasizes the computer-aided drafting and computerized numerical control aspects (CAD/CAM) of manufacturing technology.

Graduates are qualified for a variety of technical positions in the manufacturing sector, including engineering assistance in tool design, automation, machine control and programming, computer-aided design/manufacturing, sales and service. Most students gain jobs as manufacturing technicians, who assist manufacturing engineers with specific, detailed plans and communicate these plans to the machinist and craftsman.

Persons interested in manufacturing technology should possess:

  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Good basic math skills
  • Ability to work well with others
  • An interest in design and computer applications
