Ruth Reese

M.F.A., Sculpture Washington University
B.A., English Loyola University

Ruth Reese holds a M.F.A. in Sculpture (2002) from Washington University and a B.A. (1997) from Loyola University.  She has taught at St. Louis Community College, St. Charles Community College, Jefferson College, Lewis & Clark College and East Central College. After starting off her study in sculpture, Ruth has located herself in the medium of ceramics.  Within the ceramics community she has exhibited locally and nationally.

Working primarily with red earthenware, Ruth’s work is an expression of the richness of the medium. Her pieces are layered with drawings and reliefs giving them a dreamy and wistful atmosphere.  Whether creating functional pots or sculptural vessels, she combines engobes, majolicas, slips and glazes into narratives that float across the surface. In creating her ceramic forms and graphic illustrations, Ruth takes true satisfaction in her work that seeks to be both challenging and beautiful.
