Speaking Intensive Information
Speaking-intensive courses should help students, who have completed COM:101, continue to develop oral communication skills. Thus students will fulfill at least the following competencies:
- Complete speaking assignments (such as small group communication activities, peer critiques, informative speeches, debates, listening activities, large group discussions, panel discussions) totaling 30 minutes; one must include the use of media. The media used need not require equipment, but can include hand-outs, pictures, charts, posters, etc.
- Speaking assignments are appropriate to the discipline, have a clear sense of purpose, a defined audience and demonstrate knowledge of course content, elements and process of communication, and include individual presentations to groups of varying size.
- Engage in instructor, peer and self-evaluation of communication skills.
