Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology
This program prepares students to serve as technical assistants to scientists and engineers. Students learn to prepare and interpret engineering drawings, perform testing procedures and compile technical data in the chosen option. Students also acquire skills in selecting, compiling and using technical information, analyzing and interpreting information obtained from precision measuring and recording instruments, assembling and testing electronic components and writing reports.
Graduates will be prepared for employment as assistants to professional engineers, senior technicians in research, development, manufacturing, testing, installation or maintenance of a variety of products.
According to the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment for individuals in the electrical/electronic engineering field is expected to grow at the average rate through 2014. The department also states that as technology becomes more sophisticated, employers will continue to look for technicians who are skilled in new technology and require a minimum of additional job training.
Persons interested in electrical/electronic engineering technology should possess:
- Mechanical skills
- The ability to follow directions
- Prior coursework in math and physics
- Interest in building and repairing electrical and mechanical devices
