Tech Prep

For nearly two decades, colleges around the country have developed tech prep programs to support the transitioning of students into high-skilled technical careers and postsecondary programs that prepare them for those careers. In the St. Louis region, more than 8,000 high school students each year are enrolled in high school courses that align with St. Louis Community College courses and programs. Through its Tech Prep Consortium, STLCC and local high school partners collaborate to:

  • Develop articulation agreements that allow students to move through non- duplicative coursework.
  • Integrate academic and vocational and technical instruction.
  • Use work-based and work site learning to enhance learning and preparation for careers.
  • Build student competence in mathematics, science, reading, writing, communications and economics alongside other technical and workplace skills through contextual teaching and learning.
  • Provide coherent sequencing of courses and programs that supports students in transitioning from high school to college and from college to the world of work.
  • Support students in completing an associate or a baccalaureate degree, post-secondary certificate, or an apprenticeship program in a specific career field.
