Students in the Fine Arts Club at St. Louis Community College-Wildwood recently installed two new art exhibits at Wildwood City Hall, 16860 Main Street.

The exhibits, which can be viewed through May 10, are part of the club’s student-led initiative to share art with the community through its Fine Arts Gallery program. Since its inception in 2013, STLCC-Wildwood students have hung more than 200 pieces of original artwork at various business locations throughout west St. Louis County.
Of the two exhibits currently on display, one is a group show that features the artwork of 11 students and two instructors. Each piece in the exhibit is inspired by famous artists. According to student-artist Vicki Hefty, the “Inspired By” theme enabled the artists to showcase their creativity while emulating the work of famous artists.
“This is an exciting show because each piece reflects our own unique interpretation of a famous artist’s work,” Hefty said. “While our pieces are connected by a common theme, we chose to express ourselves through art using different styles, subjects and techniques.”

In addition to participating in the group show, student-artist Kim Kordonowy installed a solo exhibit in the lobby of City Hall. This exhibit features 14 of Kordonowy’s vibrantly colored paintings.
“I have always been fascinated by the natural world, so I often use elements of nature as a starting point in my paintings,” Kordonowy said. “The pieces I selected for this exhibit are either plein airs or paintings of roosters, floras and birds. I added depth and interest to each painting by incorporating vibrant colors, layers of fabric and various elements of fantasy.”
Guests are welcome to view the galleries at Wildwood City Hall between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
