News about the HLC Comprehensive Site Visit

April 04, 2018

St. Louis Community College hosted eight peer reviewers from the Higher Learning Commission for a site visit, held Feb. 26-27. The reviewers met with many groups of faculty, staff, administrators, students and members of the Board of Trustees.

At the conclusion of their visit, they informally reported that they were pleased with the visit, and enjoyed meeting so many people who genuinely cared about STLCC.

We recently received a preliminary draft of the HLC Comprehensive Site Visit report from the peer reviewers. I am very excited to announce that the draft report reflects the positive feedback we received in February, with many complimentary comments about our people and our processes. Like any review, many suggestions for improvement were offered, and there was encouragement to continue some of the changes that we have already started.

Within the draft report, only one small follow-up report on assessment will be required in two years. With the exception of that one concern expressed, all Criteria and Core Components for Accreditation were met. As soon as the final report is approved by HLC within the next 90 days, we will be able to share it publicly.

In compliance with the HLC Open Pathway for Accreditation, our next scheduled obligation is the submission of an Assurance Argument, due in 2022. Our next comprehensive site visit is likely to occur in 2028.

I would like to congratulate and thank Dr. Joyce Johnson and Dennis White, co-chairs of the HLC Team, and Dr. Andrew Langrehr, vice chancellor of academic affairs. In addition, I wish to thank the dozens of faculty and staff who worked tirelessly on committees over the past three years in preparation for the visit. Your contributions to this effort were critical to our success!

Enjoy your week!
