A Message To The STLCC Community -- Nov. 29, 2017

November 29, 2017

Collaboration, confidence, respect and sincerity in the mission to serve students is essential in public higher education.

The Board of Trustees and the leaders of St. Louis Community College have been diligent in efforts to collaborate with faculty and staff in the best interest of our students, particularly in the face of difficult decisions.

On Nov. 28, the Board and I were disappointed to learn that the STLCC National Education Association intends to take steps for a vote of no confidence. Members of the board, administrative leaders and I have met regularly with NEA leadership, faculty and staff, as well as with students, to seek viable solutions to move the College forward. In fact, on Monday, I met with student leaders who took the initiative to research and propose ideas that could be solutions for the College. Throughout the week, I’ve had similar meetings with those who are invested in making a positive change for STLCC.

It is my responsibility as the leader of the College to continue this work as we, the board, faculty and staff strive to make St. Louis Community College the first choice for students in our region.

Jeff L. Pittman, Ph.D.
