STLCC Women Finish Fifth in NJCAA Tourney

STLCC women's basketball team  
The STLCC women's basketball team finished fifth in last week's NJCAA Division II Tournament
and also captured the B.J. Graber Sportsmanship Award.

The St. Louis Community College women’s basketball team concluded the 2016-17 season with a fifth-place finish at the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II Tournament last week in Harrison, Ark.

The 11th-seeded Archers (26-9) defeated Essex County 73-52 on the tournament’s final day Saturday (March 25) in the consolation bracket. After a 3-1 showing for the tournament, the Archers also claimed the B.J. Graber Cox Sportsmanship Award

Chrishana Wilson was named to the All-Tournament Team. Wilson averaged 19.3 points, 14.5 rebounds and three steals as the Archers claimed their best-ever finish in NJCAA tourney play.

STLCC opened the tournament with a 77-59 win over Guilford Technical College March 21. The Archers lost in the quarterfinal round 82-53 to No. 3 seed Monroe Community College, dropping them into the consolation bracket. They beat Kalamazoo Valley 64-62 in a consolation semifinal thriller March 24.

STLCC Men Drop Pair in Tourney

The STLCC men’s basketball team dropped both of its games in the NJCAA Division II Tournament in Danville, Ill., last week.

The Archers lost their opener 92-70 to Louisburg March 22. Todd Sims led the way with 14 points. They then fell to Essex County 70-52 in the consolation round March 23. Sean Rigmaiden topped the Archers with 16 points.

The men concluded the season with a 21-14 mark.
