STLCC to Conduct Diaper Drive

One in three mothers struggle to provide the diapers her children need to stay clean, healthy and happy.

In order to address this problem, St. Louis Community College will host a diaper drive Nov. 7-28 at all campus locations. Donations may be made at any STLCC Campus Police office. All diapers collected will support the St. Louis Area Diaper Bank.

The St. Louis Area Diaper Bank seeks to help streamline the collection and distribution of diapers to low-income families in the St. Louis region. With diapers and financial donations collected from the community, the Diaper Bank partners with existing service organizations to serve families who are most in need of diapers to keep their little ones clean and dry, healthy and happy.

Through this drive, STLCC aims to assist the St. Louis Area Diaper Bank in its efforts to provide families in-need with an adequate supply of diapers.

Diaper need is a serious problem. To stay clean and dry, babies need an average of 6-to-10 diapers per day, or 3,650 diapers per year. The average annual cost of diapering one child is $1,000. Diapers can’t be purchased with food stamps or through the WIC program. Forty percent of children under five in St. Louis City live in poverty.

STLCC’s diaper drive is organized by the college’s Department of Public Safety and Student Government Associations. Diapers of all sizes are welcomed, from newborn through size 6, including training pants size 2-4. Sizes 4, 5, 6 and training pants in size 2T-4T are in highest demand. Open packages of unused diapers and training pants also will be accepted.
