St. Louis Community College and Music at Meramec will present “Sing Me to Heaven,” the fall choral showcase concert, at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23, in the Meramec Theatre.

The performance will feature the Meramec Concert Choir, Chamber Singers and Voices of Magic, conducted by Jerry Myers, professor of Music, and Mrs. Gloria West, in their first performance of the year.

In “Sing Me to Heaven,” the Meramec choirs will perform a variety of sacred and secular pieces in celebration of love, life and loss. The concert will feature Daniel Gawthrop’s “Sing Me to Heaven” – in its 25th anniversary year – and the premiere of “I Am Not There,” by Myers, and based on Mary Elizabeth Frye’s poem “Do Not Stand at My Grave and Weep.”

The concert will also include gospel soloist Nekisha Rhodes performing with the choirs on “What a Wonderful World” and “Ride in the Chariot.”

The Concert Choir will perform a movement from Schubert’s “Mass in A flat,” a work they will perform at Carnegie Hall in March 2017.

The performance is free and open to the public. The Meramec campus is located at 11333 Big Bend Road in Kirkwood.
