STLCC’s Peterson Lecture Series to Feature Lynn Terry

August 25, 2016

Tails from the Booth

Photographer Lynn Terry, best known for her commercial and private work with pets, will be the guest speaker for the fourth annual Peterson Lecture Series at St. Louis Community College.

Her lecture, “Tails from Behind the Lens: The Photographic Journey of Pet Photographer Lynn Terry,” is slated 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11, in Lecture Hall Room 103 at the college’s Meramec campus, 11333 Big Bend Road. The lecture is free and open to the public.

During the lecture, the St. Louis native will discuss the span of her 20-year career in photography -- all starting at St. Louis Community College. She will cover types of photography, the business end of photography and the realities of a career in photography.

Terry’s images grace calendars, greeting cards, packaging and advertising campaigns throughout the commercial pet industry. Inspired by her interest in vintage “human” photo booth shots, she began a photo booth series of dogs for a local pit bull rescue group, and her book, “Tails from the Booth” was published by Simon and Schuster in 2015. Her work has also been featured in The Huffington Post, Yahoo!, The Dodo, Good Morning America, Bark Magazine and the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Terry attended STLCC-Meramec and the University of Missouri. She received her bachelor’s degree in fine arts with an emphasis in photography and a minor in art history. She began her career in commercial work dabbling in portraits, product and architecture, but quickly discovered the subject she was most passionate about was photographing dogs -- and cats and other furry four-legged creatures.

Due to the success of her photography business, Terry has been a fixture and valuable friend to local animal welfare organizations, rescue groups and homeless pets of the St. Louis region. By volunteering her time and photography to local animal welfare organizations, Terry has had the opportunity to generate much-needed revenue and awareness for these organizations.

This lecture series is sponsored by Kristen Peterson. She is a recognized St. Louis photographer who attended photography classes at STLCC. Peterson was so impressed by the education and experience she received at STLCC that she has made a commitment to help raise awareness of the quality arts programs offered at STLCC by sponsoring this annual free photography lecture series.
