Winners Selected for Wildwood Juried Student Art Exhibit

May 10, 2016

Dion Dion's artwork captured first place in the Juried
Student Art Exhibit at STLCC-Wildwood.

Each spring, the Art department at St. Louis Community College-Wildwood sponsors a Juried Student Art Exhibition.

This year, the exhibit featured more than 50 pieces of student artwork created during the fall and spring semesters.

From drawings and paintings, to sculptures, design works and collage works, the annual student exhibition is a competitive event for all students in the Art department.

Like real-world art exhibits,
Wildwood’s student show is juried by a professional artist who selects artwork for artistic merit awards.

This year, Chris Moreland, head preparator at Saint Louis Art Museum, juried the exhibit. Moreland described Wildwood’s student show as, “a very strong exhibition.” He added, “It’s very hard to pick just a few winners.”

place.

In addition to the jury-selected awards, the campus community voted on the People’s Choice Award. This year, two students received equal votes in this category, and therefore they both received this award.

Winners by category include:

  • People’s Choice -- Vicki Hefty and Heather Dobrinic
  • First Place -- Dion Dion
  • Second Place -- Mary Osborne
  • Third Place -- Lauren Kiser
  • Fourth Place -- Vicki Hefty
  • Honorable Mention -- Ally Burns, Michelle Streiff, Kim Kordonowy, Jo Jasper Dean

“This exhibit is one of my favorites because it showcases the diversity and talent of our students,” said Mark Weber, professor in art. “It’s a wonderful opportunity for students to share their artwork with the campus community.”
