Forest Park Recipients

Joe Wilson and Susan Tolentino

Susan Tolentino is an engineering technician in the Chemistry department and a 21-year employee of STLCC. She is an exceptional organizer, first putting the chemistry prep storage area in order. She also redesigned and updated the entire set of experiments for the general chemistry sequence, which required extensive preparation and testing to ensure that they worked properly in the classroom. She has made suggestions for substituting non-toxic substances in experiments that minimize the hazardous waste produced, which is very expensive to both collect and dispose of properly. Tolentino was named the 2015 Forest Park Staff Member of the Year in recognition of her work in support of the college’s core values and goals.

Joe Wilson is an associate professor in the Chemistry department. He was named Forest Park’s 2015 Teacher of the Year. Wilson has taught chemistry classes – fundamental, general and organic – since 2010, and has been actively involved on campus academic, faculty, staff and student committees. He formed the Chemistry Club, and is the adviser of the chapter now affiliated with the American Chemical Society. In 2014, his hazardous waste treatment document to make STLCC science laboratories safer was named the campus Innovation of the Year.
