St. Louis Community College-Forest Park will observe the birthday of the late Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with a special event Thursday, Jan. 21, in the Mildred E. Bastian Center for the Performing Arts on campus, 5600 Oakland Ave.

“Civil Rights Letters and Speeches Remembered” is slated 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. It will feature famous speeches from the civil rights leader narrated by Deborah Henry, an award-winning assistant professor in history at STLCC. It also includes a mini production, music and other passages.

The activities will conclude with a call to action to students from Rasheen Aldridge Jr., a former STLCC student who is the youngest member of the Ferguson Commission, and a reception. NAACP President Adolphus Pruitt and St. Louis City Treasurer Tishaura Jones also will participate in the event.

More than 200 students from local middle and high schools are expected to attend.
