STLCC Receives Student Support Services Grant

July 23, 2015

The United States Department of Education's Student Support Services Program recently awarded St. Louis Community College with three grants totaling $657,228 for the 2015-16 school year. The goal of Student Support Services is to increase college retention and graduation rates among its participants. It is anticipated that the grant will be for a total of five years.

Grant funds will support the college's Florissant Valley, Forest Park, and Meramec campuses, helping approximately 160 eligible students complete their postsecondary education. STLCC serves a significant number of low-income, first-generation learners, and students with disabilities.

"This grant will help us provide much needed financial resources to students in need. These monies can serve as a platform for students to propel themselves over the obstacles set before them and toward a degree and bright future," said Franklyn Taylor, Vice President for Student Affairs at STLCC at Forest Park.

Student Support Services awards grants to higher education institutions to provide opportunities for academic development, assist students with basic college requirements, and to motivate students toward the successful completion of their postsecondary education.
