Peter Gitau Ngatia, Ph.D.

Dr. Peter Gitau Ngatia  


Peter Ngatia has more than 15 years of progressively senior, higher education experience. He has overseen and supervised comprehensive student services departments at both public and private institutions, and is committed to a philosophy of student centeredness.

His most recent professional experiences include serving as the vice president for student affairs at Northern Kentucky University; associate vice chancellor and dean of students at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale; and as executive assistant to the president for diversity at Manchester University in Indiana.

Passionate about international education and inclusive excellence, Ngatia also is the founder and president of the African International Foundation for Educational Excellence, a non-profit organization with community development initiatives in sub-Saharan Africa.

Born and raised in a rural village in Kenya, was the first in his family to go to college. Ngatia earned his doctorate in higher education policy and administration from the University of Kansas. He holds a master’s in educational administration from Eastern Illinois University. His bachelor’s degree in secondary education is from Kenyatta University in Nairobi.
