Charles Abasa-Nyarko, Ph.D.

Charles Abasa-Nyarko  

Charles Abasa-Nyarko has more than 25 years of progressive professional academic and leadership experience in higher education, with 12 of those years in the community college environment.

He serves as the vice president for instruction at Central Oregon Community College in Bend, Ore. Before COCC, he was the executive planner and project manager at Baltimore City Community College in Maryland. He served as vice president of academic affairs at Bunker Hill Community College (BHCC) in Boston, Massachusetts. 

Prior to his position with Bunker Hill, he worked at Gloucester County College in New Jersey as vice president for academic and student services, and later as vice president for academic services.  He also spent three years as dean of arts and sciences at Muskegon Community College in Muskegon, Mich., and more than two years at South Suburban College in Illinois as associate dean of English, library, social and behavioral sciences. Abasa-Nyarko also was the director of the Center for the Prevention of Crime Illiteracy and Poverty at Norfolk State University in Virginia. He also has teaching experience at four-year institutions.
Abasa-Nyarko holds a doctorate in international studies from the University of South Carolina, a master’s degree in political science from Brigham Young University, and a bachelor’s degree in political science from University of Ghana.
