People who are interested in careers in the fields of hospitality and criminal justice can learn more at two special information sessions offered at St. Louis Community College-Wildwood in June.

The campus recently has added courses to its schedule that will lead to a certificate in travel and tourism, an associate degree in hospitality and tourism with a focus on hotel management, or a degree or certificate in criminal justice.

The travel and tourism/hotel management session will be held 6-8 p.m. on June 3, and the criminal justice session will be held 6-8 p.m. on June 10. Both will be conducted in the Multipurpose Room at the campus, 2645 Generations Drive in Wildwood, near the intersection of Hwy. 109 and Manchester Road.

At each of the information sessions, attendees will hear firsthand from a panel of employees in the industry.  Program coordinators and instructors also will be on hand to provide information about the sequence of courses and how to get enrolled.

“West St. Louis County is a mecca for the hospitality industry,” said Patrick Vaughn, vice president for academic affairs at the campus. “With so much growth in this area, it made sense to offer the courses at the Wildwood campus in addition to our Forest Park campus.”

The Wildwood campus joins the Forest Park, Florissant Valley and Meramec campuses in offering courses for the criminal justice degree and certificate.

"The faculty who will be teaching at Wildwood hold the same professional and educational credentials as those who teach criminal justice anywhere else in the region. We have active police officers, detectives, corrections professionals and federal agents," said Michael Hepner, assistant professor and coordinator of the Criminal Justice program at Meramec and Wildwood.

The courses for both areas will be offered in a specific sequence from semester to semester, allowing students to complete their goals on the Wildwood campus.

The information sessions will only be offered once this summer, and classes will begin this fall. For more information, visit stlcc.edu/ww or call 636-422-2014.
