Meramec Theatre Presents “The Tragedy of Doctor Faustus” April 15-19

April 03, 2015

Doctor Faustus

The St. Louis Community College-Meramec Theatre presents “The Tragedy of Doctor Faustus” by Christopher Marlowe April 15-18 at 7:30 p.m., and April 19 at 2 p.m. in the Meramec Theatre on campus, 11333 Big Bend Road in Kirkwood.

“The Tragedy of Doctor Faustus” is directed by Keith Oliver with set design by Darren Thompson.

Marlowe’s Faustus reworks the late medieval myth of a brilliant scholar, so disillusioned with life, he resolves to make a contract with Lucifer’s henchman, Mephistopheles, for all the knowledge and pleasure of this world. Faustus, the embittered thinker, and Mephistopheles enter into their agreement, and soon Faustus is living a rejuvenated life and winning the love of the beautiful Gretchen. Yet, in this compelling tragedy of arrogance, unfulfilled desire and self-delusion, Faustus heads inexorably toward an infernal destruction.

“The Tragedy of Doctor Faustus” contains partial nudity and is recommended for mature audiences only.

The Meramec Theatre no longer takes reservations. Admission is free. Seating is open and on a first-come basis.
