Meramec Theatre Holds Auditions for “Wiley and the Hairy Man”

April 28, 2015

St. Louis Community College-Meramec will hold auditions for “Wiley and the Hairy Man” by Jack Stokes at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 5, and Wednesday, May 6, in the Meramec Theatre on campus, 11333 Big Bend Road in Kirkwood.

Audition consists of cold reading from the script and no preparation is required. The cast requires two males and one female or three flexible roles. Performance dates are June 8-10 at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. and an evening performance June 9 at 7 p.m.

Presented in lyric poetry and mime, “Wiley and the Hairy Man” is drawn from native folk wisdom. "Outwit the Hairy Man three times and he won't scare you ever again," says Mammy. Trembling, Wiley sets out for the woods, prepared to confront the Hairy Man; he looks fear in the face and outwits it.

“Wiley and the Hairy Man” is a Joseph Jefferson Award winner for outstanding children's play. The Meramec production is directed by Michelle Rebollo.
