Bowling for Scholars Strikes Up Funds for Student Books, Course Materials

Bowling for Scholars  
Participants at Bowling for Scholars set a world record for the most people in one place sporting a Superman curl.

Tropicana Lanes was the setting for a world record attempt, some serious fundraising and some not-so-serious bowling at the 11th annual Bowling for Scholars event, sponsored by St. Louis Community College’s Auxiliary Services department.

Participants set a world record for the most people in one place who sported a Superman curl.

Team RICOH won the Highest Scoring Team Award for the second straight year. Team members were Ryan O’Hearne, Lynn Gatto, Chris Linhares, Greg Whitledge and Allen Willison.

The Highest Scoring Individual Bowler was Mike Buda from Meramec’s Financial Aid department. Winner of the Decorated Bowling Pin contest was Linda Hartman, whose winning entry was titled “Queen of Scraps.” Hartman is a student at the Wildwood campus.

The event raised $36,755 for student to purchase or rent textbooks and course materials for their classes. Since its inception in 2005, Bowling for Scholars has raised nearly $336,000. Funds are raised through corporate sponsorships, cookie sales, alley auction, raffles, team registration sales and bookstore promotions.
