The Montage, St. Louis Community College-Meramec's student newspaper, recently earned 24 individual awards and the Sweepstakes Award in the two-year college division at the Missouri College Media Association’s annual convention and awards ceremony, held April 11 at Northwest Missouri State University.

The Montage received first place in the Sweepstakes category for the most awards earned, third place for the Best Overall Newspaper in the two-year college division, first place for its Back to School Guide, first place for its website, and 24 additional staff and individual awards.

The Montage staff competed against several other two-year school newspapers from across the state, including newspapers from the Forest Park and Florissant Valley campuses. Entries in the competition were judged for general excellence by members of the Missouri Press Association.

Individual and staff awards received by The Montage staff included first-, second- and third-place wins for news writing, in-depth reporting, feature and sports writing, sports photography, information graphics, story illustrations, editorial cartoons, page design and multimedia content. Staff members also received several honorable mentions.

The Montage has consistently won awards for excellence in student journalism at the state and national levels for many years. Recent awards include national recognition from the Society of Professional Journalists with a Mark of Excellence Award, and a Pacemaker Award from the Associated Collegiate Press.

In addition to this year’s recognition from the Missouri Press Association, The Montage was named the MCMA Best Overall Newspaper in the two-year school division for 2012-13, 2011-12, 2010-11, 2006-07, 2005-06, 2004-05, 2003-04, 2001-02, 2000-01 and 1999-2000.
