STLCC-Florissant Valley Presents “Steel Magnolias”

April 09, 2015

Steel Magnolias

“Steel Magnolias” takes the stage at St. Louis Community College-Florissant Valley’s Terry M. Fischer Theatre at 8 p.m. April 17, 18, 24 and 25, and at 2 p.m. April 19.

The campus is located at 3400 Pershall Road in Ferguson.

"Steel Magnolias" is the story of six women friends in Chinquapin, La., in the 1980s. It takes place in Truvy's Beauty Shop, where "anyone who is anybody" comes to get their hair done. The show opens the morning of Shelby's wedding. She's getting ready to marry a "good ole boy." She gets advice from the hairdressers, the town's rich curmudgeon, an eccentric millionaire, and her mother, the local social leader.

The play has both comedic and tragic moments -- but through it all the power of the women's love and the strength of their friendship carry them through -- as long as they have each other.

The play is directed by Donna Spaulding.

Admission is free and all performances are open to the public. The April 24 performance will be sign interpreted.
