STLCC Hosts “March Muster” Event to Help Returning Soldiers

March 10, 2015

It can be difficult for military veterans who have returned from deployment to access the resources available to them. To assist veterans in taking these vital first steps, St. Louis Community College-Wildwood will host a free, hands-on event, “March Muster,” for all veterans 8 a.m.-noon on Friday, March 27.

“I know from my own experience that finding and signing up for benefits can be a confusing process,” said Tracy Carpenter Bond, STLCC’s veterans affairs coordinator.  Bond served in the U.S. Navy Reserve prior to joining STLCC.

“This is more than just an informational session,” she added. “We want to help veterans actually sign up for the benefits they are entitled to at the event and help them move forward with their future plans.”

During the event, veterans will be able to apply for VA Educational Benefits, register for e-benefits accounts, start the disability benefits process, and speak with members of West St. Louis County Chamber of Commerce’s Working Warriors group to connect with employers interested in hiring veterans.  Veterans can also learn about STLCC’s admission process if they’re interested in returning to school.

Participants include VA Healthcare, Vet Center from St. Louis and Springfield, Ill., the Missouri Veterans History Project and the YMCA.

STLCC-Wildwood is located at 2645 Generations Drive.

Registration is not required, but is appreciated. Visit calendar.stlcc.edu and click on March 27 to register, or contact Debbie Ward at dward106@stlcc.edu or 636-422-2241.
