STLCC-Florissant Valley Celebrates Earth Day with Annual Green Fair

March 25, 2015

St. Louis Community College-Florissant Valley will host the ninth annual Green Fair, 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m., Wednesday, April 1, in the Student Center on the Florissant Valley campus, 3400 Pershall Road in Ferguson.

The Green Fair began nine years ago to commemorate Earth Day. Since then, the event has grown each year with more participants.

The goal of the Green Fair is to make the community aware of the many “green” options available, including organic and community gardens, cleaning products, electric vehicles and more. Various companies and organizations in the St. Louis area will conduct demonstrations and provide information about their services.

In October 2008, former Florissant Valley President Marcia Pfeiffer signed the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education  President’s Climate Commitment. This commitment dictates that colleges and universities must exercise leadership in their communities and throughout society by modeling ways to eliminate global warming emissions, and by initiating the development of a comprehensive plan to achieve climate neutrality. The Green Fair is just one of several ways STLCC-Florissant Valley seeks to live up to that commitment.

The Green Fair is sponsored by the STLCC Sustainability Committee.
